1. Lower class boats may step-up for trophies but not for points. If there is only one or two boats in
a class and a step-up is only for the third boat in the class, they can compete for a trophy, but not for points. If
there are already three (3) boats in a class and all drivers in that class approve a boat to step-up, they can take points
away from the regular classed boats.
2. There will be a six (6) boat limit for all Garvey and SKIFF classes. Free-for-alls will be limited to eight (8) boats.
The rule that governs any regular season racing event also applies during any run-off, novice, championship, and/or powder
puff race.
3. Trophies and awards shall be given to all winners determined by points. In case of ties, both will be awarded
a "tie for place" trophy.
4. Any boat found to be running against the course (clockwise) shall be disqualified for that racing heat. Any boat
changing lanes or going into the infield between the staging area and finish line at the start of the race to avoid red flagging,
will cause an immediate RED flag and the offending boat will be disqualified.
5. After a course is set, there will be no moving, snagging or holding on to buoys, under any circumstances. Buoys
may only be moved when permission is granted by the race officials.
6. Any boat during competition causing a buoy to (A) sink, (B) be destroyed, or (C) emerge on the right side of the beam
of the boat will continue to race, but will be automatically in sixth place. Any boat judged as sinking a buoy will
be charged a replacement fee, which is payable before any further competition. If a buoy has been sunk during a
race and if the guilty party cannot be determined, the cost of the buoy will be shared by all the participants in that heat.
Any boat reversing its direction to go around a missed buoy will be disqualified for that heat and lose all subsequent heat
points.
7. Any drivers, co-pilots, rider or crew in a boat that is under power, either on or off the race course must wear an approved
life jacket and helmet or be disqualified for that racing date.
*8. The five minute gun (horn) indicates the boats have 5 minutes to go out onto the course and proceed to the staging
area. (Revised rule definition Clock reference deleted.)
9. *Deleted clock rule. See flag procedure.
10. *Deleted clock rule. See flag procedure.

the dock.

16. *Moved to flag procedure.
17. *A boat losing a driver or co-pilot after the five minute gun has sounded may not compete in that heat. He may
run in the next set of heats for his class if he so desires. The boat involved can be subject to re-inspection before
any subsequent competition. Anyone tossed into the water due to a flip or other reason must go with the dive team or
safety boat to the ambulance for a check up by the EMTs. It is possible to have an injury and not realize it. They can continue
to race if the EMTs say he is OK. All available club members only (not spectators) will help upright and bail and load
the boat on the trailer if necessary. Do not try to ride the flipped boat back to the dock, It is extremely difficult to tow,
even without the additional weight.
18. A race is not considered finished until the last boat has crossed the finish line and the yellow flag is thrown.
However, should a boat cause the race to be stopped on the third lap after the leader has finished, the legal finish for that
race will stand as the boats positioned prior to stoppage. All other situations constitute a restart.
19. In case of any boat throwing out a driver, co-pilot, or totally flipping, the race will be stopped. Anyone not
obeying this rule will be disqualified and lose all points for that date. (see rule # 6)
20. All boats must maintain their original starting lanes on a restart.
21. A maximum of three (3) restarts will be permitted. (includes championship day)
22. A day boat must pay a $35.00 registration fee for that day’s racing. He is also required to pay a one time
membership fee for that year of $35.00 each for the driver and co-pilot. All day boats must meet all requirements for
safety, as well as hull and engine rules. A day boat is not entitled to any points. A day boat must start on the
outside lane for all heats. All monies paid as a day boat do not accumulate as payment toward registration. A
boat that registers after being a day boat is not entitled to any retroactive points. Day boats are eligible for event
trophies.
23. Boats competing in the championship race are subject to all the safety, engine, and hull rules of the class that they
qualified in during the season. (see rule # 38)
24. Once the white flag is raised, NO boat can go against the course at the staging area. First infraction: warning; second
infraction: boat is beached for the day.
25. Once the race has started and the red flag is thrown, whoever caused the red flag will be disqualified, except
on a restart.
26.* On the start of the race, all boats must maintain their lane positions thru the 1st
and 2nd turn buoys. After that they may change lanes at any time as long as they have the required
three (3) boat lengths distance between any other boat. Penalty: DISQUALIFICATION & loss of
points for the heat. Any offending boat will continue to race but will be disqualified at the end
of the race. The boat that draws the inside lane must follow the course as marked by the buoys,
and not make an excessively wide path around the turn so as to push other boats to the outside.
27. *In order for a race to be official, there must be a minimum of three (3) boats in a heat.
If three boats are not present in one class then that class must race in a class with enough boats.
The order of finish will be determined for each individual class. No class will lose any points
if another class runs with them. A registered boat that is alone in a class
can not take high point championship trophy, since it has run the season in a non-competitive situation.
28. Any and all protests must be put in writing, signed and submitted to any Official at the clock.
Protested boat must be warned of the protest as soon as protest is given to the official. *There will be NO arguing at the race site office, sales table, or announcers area. See gen. rules # 3, inspection # 9, & conduct # 42.
30. All protests will be resolved at the end of the race day or at the next club meeting by the executive
officers ONLY.
31. Any boat jumping the start:
A. Must maintain their lane as in the previous start but will not cross the starting line first.
See race course rule E.
B. The second time any boat jumps the start the race will continue but the offending boat or boats being disqualified will be notified at the end of the race.
C. Deleted clock rule.
D. The safety boat will verbally warn all boats that it is the third restart and all boats will be disqualified if they are red flagged again on the start.
E. On the third restart, if the race must be stopped because of a flip, a boat on the course, or whatever, the race will be rerun later in the day.
32. Any boat or boats that take the green flag, and then break down, will receive 6th place points for
that race. The boat must drive to the infield or safety zone to qualify.
33. The infield will be used for safety reasons ONLY. If you must re-enter the course, you must
have a safe distance before pulling out. If you go to the infield to "complain" about a bad start,
for example, you will be disqualified for that heat.
34. If you cannot get your boat started by the end of the first lap, you are NOT eligible to run that
race. This applies to any boat that has drifted off the course.
35. If the safety boat tells a boat to go against the course for: A; sinking B; there is a red flag and
there will be a long delay before the next start, and they want the remaining boats to return to the pits
C; any other reason(s), these boats will suffer NO penalties.
36. * If for any reason a boat cannot get started before the five minute gun, a representative may go
to an official and ask for extra time.
37. The officers and executive committee have the final say on any rule. This only applies when
a referee has a problem with a decision.
38. Any woman who wants to run powder puff is eligible to run every year, However, ALL women will receive a T-shirt- no trophy.
39. Any boat that has run a full season and collected points can be voted in as being "grand fathered"
in their class
40. Boat length: all boats are minimum 16’ 6" in length, as long as they meet the correct weight
and follow all the engine rules for their class.
41.* CONFLICT OF INTEREST: An officer, executive committee, or engine committee member MAY
NOT VOTE on a situation involving a dispute, disagreement, protest, or violation
of any club, race, conduct, engine, or hull rules, concerning a boat or action which he has a direct personal
involvement in, such as an owner, driver, builder, sponsor, operator, or crew.
42. * UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT: All of our events are family oriented. They are attended by our spouses, children, parents, local town officials, news reporters, local & State Marine Police, Coast Guard, as well as other people who have powerful influence over our future events. Everyone associated
with the club always needs to be a diplomatic ambassador to everyone at all times. Unsportsmanlike
conduct is not permitted, and includes, but is not limited to: arguing, name calling, foul language at
the clock or in front of spectators, disrespecting race officials, fighting, intoxication, reckless actions
on the racecourse, cutting off, ramming, doing damage to a competitors boat or equipment, or any action
that can or has caused injury. See gen. rule #3, insp. # 9.
43. It has been traditional for members to give rides in the race boats to various non member people who have helped the club, especially at away races. It is permitted after the buoys have been removed,
since the event is officially concluded, however it is done entirely at the operators own risk since the
ambulance is no longer on site, and the insurance coverage ends. All boat occupants must wear helmets
and life jackets, and other safety rules still apply.
44. ALL boat operators and copilots must be in compliance with the recent N. J. boat operators license
laws.
